PROFILO DELL’OPERA / ABSTRACT
Il secondo volume sul Self Made Architecture raccoglie le indagini e le sperimentazioni messe in atto con le altre due edizioni della International Summer Academy che nel frattempo sono state svolte rispettivamente ad Ankara, nel 2015, e poi di nuovo a Bari nel 2018. Il tema di fondo, invariato, è la sperimentazione sul progetto quale strumento atto a consentire una costruzione dell’architettura che leghi in maniera più stretta committenza e realizzazione dell’opera. Le due esperienze, però, segnano un passaggio sul metodo più netto con la terza edizione che rilancia il tema nei termini di una maggiore aderenza alle grandi sfide del cantiere di costruzione inserito nel più ampio scenario del macro tema ‘Industria 4.0’ e, quindi, fabbricazione digitale. L’occasione è data anche dalla realizzazione ed avviamento del Laboratorio di Fabbricazione Digitale del Politecnico di Bari – FabLab POLIBA – che ha fornito una sede adeguata ed avanzata per una sperimentazione più efficace ed una programmazione della ricerca che rilancia ancora la sfida assunta dal tema Self Made Architecture.
The second volume on Self Made Architecture gathers the investigations and experiments carried out during the second and third editions of the International Summer Academy, held respectively in Ankara, in 2015, and again in Bari in 2018. The basic theme, unchanged, is the experimentation on the project as a tool to allow a construction of the architecture with a closer bound between the client and the realization of the work. Both editions have a focus on the method. The third, in particular, complies more with the great challenges of the construction site, included in the macro theme 'Industry 4.0', and thus digital fabrication. The third edition was also favoured by the creation and start-up of the Digital Manufacturing Laboratory of the Polytechnic of Bari – FabLab POLIBA – which provided an adequate and advanced location for a more effective experimentation and research planning, which again raises the challenge taken on the theme Self Made Architecture.

Nicola Parisi is an architect and Associate Professor of Architectural and Urban Design at the Polytechnic University of Bari. He holds a PhD in Architectural Design for Mediterranean Countries. He is a scholar of the work of Mimar Sinan, the master of Ottoman architecture, and a researcher in the field of the relationship between architectural form and construction techniques. He is the Director of FabLab POLIBA, a digital fabrication laboratory serving the metropolitan area of Bari.
